Sabrena Walton

Sabrena has been lovingly working with children for many years and had been teaching in the public system for two years before making the happy switch to a Waldorf classroom. During her time in a public school, she taught a broad range of subjects such as Science, Social Studies, Math, Language Arts, Photography, and Fine Art. She has also worked with children with developmental differences who were classified under various titles such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD). No matter what the situation, she tirelessly worked to foster a sense of community and an atmosphere of mutual respect, support, and kindness in her classrooms, an effort which benefitted her students and herself. Prior to teaching, Sabrena worked with children in a variety of settings including early childhood education, after school programs, recreation, and environmental and outdoor education.

Sabrena has been drawn to Waldorf pedagogy for many years because of the unhurried approach to education that puts a strong emphasis on critical thinking, creative expression, and connection to the natural world. She is overjoyed to be given the opportunity to provide a Waldorf experience to a new generation of children and to assist in helping Waldorf flourish in Edmonton for many years to come. Many of Sabrena’s dear friends are former Parkallen Waldorf school alumni that operated in the 1980s and all of them speak fondly and enthusiastically about their experiences in the Waldorf program. She is looking forward to deepening her practical and pedagogical knowledge in Waldorf teacher training for Class teachers this summer.

Sabrena is mother to a creative, and inquisitive nine year-old boy and married to a fellow hard working and compassionate teacher. Aside from children, her interests and passions include Permaculture gardening, yoga, camping, hiking, wild food harvesting, painting, jewelry design, and meditation.
